Portable DC Current Clamp Ammeters
The Swain Meter Company manufactures portable DC current clamp meters that precisely measure the magnitude and direction of DC current flow on any conductor. Used both onshore and offshore, Swain instruments assist with corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection by accurately reading current from 5mA to 200 Amps with a resolution of 1mA in the 0-2Amp range.
Swain Meter™ field portable, custom built, clamp-on DC Ammeters:
- Sizes range from 3/4” through 100”+ diameter
- Clips and Clamps are non-contact devices
- Measure DC current from 5mA to 200Amps
- One mA Resolution in 2A range
- Cancels AC interference for accurate reads
- Shows direction and Magnitude of current
- Corrosion monitoring
- Pipeline cathodic protection

Clamp On DC Meter
Swain MER™ and Auto MER™ corrosion monitoring meters cancel out AC interference up to 10Amps to establish a +/- 1% reliability specification. MER™ is “Magnetic Error Reduction”, a patented technology (US patent 6,323,635 1) is constructed to cancel out the earth’s magnetic field and establish an error-free baseline from which precise readings are obtained. Corrosion Sensors
MER2® Corrosion Sensors are used to measure actual pipe current, both magnitude and direction of flow, more accurately and in less time, above ground, under water and permanently buried. These Clips and Clamps are available from 3/4″ to over 100″ diameter aperture. More…
How to Use Our Products
DC current clamp ammeters are tools for corrosion monitoring and solving cathodic protection problems. They can measure interference in a gas pipe or support column, measure anode current on a subsea structure, or find lost cathodic protection current due to bad pipeline insulation, defective anode leads, or poor structural electrical contact.
